"House on Fire", the performance piece. Video Post

There is a new children's museum in Lancaster OH called A-HA. It's more of an indoor playground with art supplies and water features and blocks and stuff. But the big hit was (SURPRISE!) the dress-up clothes and adjacent stage area. There were a good million and a half plays performed there in the 3 hours we were there, some involving actual "tickets" and "backstage passes". Too funny. This one is my favorite because it involves classic elements: a tragic situation with potential dire outcome, a damsel in distress, a hero in uniform, great lighting, and deep, full-cast bows. See for yourself.

Here is the transcript in case you missed it.

Curtain is drawn to reveal a lady sleeping as imaginary flames surround her.

Pauline: *turns lights up*

Jade (stirring from slumber): "Oh no, I woke up and now my house is on fire! Help!"

Lauren: *runs around dousing flames with smallest imaginary firehose ever, before finally pulling Jade to safety*

The End.

Tony nominations ensue.

This is Calvin Swiniarski, born March 14th (Pi baby!). These kids will be playing in a band and a hockey team someday...

Trevor "Walk" in the Snugli Video Post

We had a family walk today after dinner that involved Trevor strapped inside Beth's jacket in one of those Snugli contraptions. It was most hilarious from the below angle:

yeah, it was totally a Russian Nesting Doll situation.

Momma's Boy

In the sense that he was born out of his momma. I know that because I was there. (Thank You, Miracles of Nature). Not in the sense of he's a weak-spined insolent brat. Nope.

Rachel and little Joe!

Rachel was in Ohio with little Joe, so we met for lunch at a Ruby Tuesday's in Cambridge. Rachel is the author of the Bomboniera blog in the links to the right ---> and a roommate of Beth's from college. We hadn't seen her in about 4 years. It was nice to catch up.
This is her son Joe, and he liked me enough to hang out for a while. Rachel said I was lucky, he doesn't do that for many people. What can I say? Kids like me (probably because my mindset is not too far above theirs)!
Beth got a big smile from little T while we were there.

Lauren at the dentist

I went to the dentist and cleaned all my teeth! Maria cleaned my teeth, really. But I didn't have very much fun, though. And Maria was very nice. I got a prize when I was done! That's all I would like to say.

My Sillies

We've been awol, so here's a shot from a few weeks ago. It's currently my work computer wallpaper. Our modem at home died, so we've been off-line a bit. That should be remedied today though. Patrick is taking the kids out of the house today for an adventure. His first solo mission with the two in tow. Good luck there mister!

Where are my shoes? I'm cold.

Baby, have you seen my shoes? I swear they were right here. Back when I was a young whippersnapper like yourself, I would have had no problem remembering where my face was. But now, everything's a little bleary.

Could one of you be kind enough to get me a windbreaker or something? And an umbrella? This springtime is a little new to me.

What a difference 4 days makes!

OK, remember all the snow we just had? Like Sunday? It's mostly gone. I swear it was 55 degrees outside today. All that work digging out, when all we had to do was just sit back and let Springtime Magic work it's um, er, magic.

Two peas...

When people ask who I think Trevor looks like... I usually say Lauren.

Blizzard 08 Video Post

So the word on the street is that this wasn't an actual blizzard because it didn't have "three hours of constant winds or gusts up to 35mph with visibility of a quarter-mile or less from blowing snow". [Columbus Dispatch]

Whatever.

We were there, and that snow was INTENSE. It snowed for like 40 hours straight. There's a shot of me in the video standing in snow up to the top of my thigh. That, my friends, is a boatload of snow. Certainly the most Beth and I can remember in the last 10 years.

It was actually pretty fun. Tonight = snowman/snowfort/snowball time!

Here is a bonus picture of our cars in the driveway. Note the massive snowdrift by the back door of my car.

Snow Day Inside

Well, after spending a few hours digging out the cars (many thanks to my brothers who appeared with shovels and helped finish the job--you guys are awesome), Lauren and Patrick left the snow fort on adventures (Lauren to see 'Annie' with grandma, and Patrick to the hockey arena)... leaving Trevor and I to play. He's been really talkative lately, and I swear he had some sort of conversation with the winnie the pooh in this picture.

Hockey Goal in Reverse Video Post

Matt and Dan and I went to the Blue Jackets game last night. I happened to catch Zherdev's game-winner on video. (hint, he's the one at the top of the screen, putting away his slapshot and then calling for the puck in reverse).

Things to look out for in this video: the cannon in reverse (sweet!), and the striking contrast in crowd noise. Sorry about picture/sound quality, it's from my cellphone, and the editing software ate it to bits trying to reverse it. Maybe someday I'll have a phone that can take 7MP pictures and 640x480 30fps video. Probably next week the way technology is speeding up...

*edit* They later credited this goal to Jason Chimera. Must've rebounded or something. Hockey happens pretty fast sometimes, even if you're the one with the video review in your hand!

Now and Then

One is of daddy and Lauren, the other is daddy and Trevor... can you guess which is which? I love these pictures, and had to share. I think we need a current Lauren and daddy footsie photo... she has been growing, you see. Only 3.5 and wearing size 11 shoes. Daddy wears a 14 wide / 15, and Trevor just wears socks or footie sleepers. I'm a 9 myself. For you Ohioans... watch out, winter mix is coming...

Um, Daddy?

My Daddy is so funny. Tonight, we went and made copies of fliers for his band's show, and we put them up at some bars around the campus area. Then, we went to eat dinner at the Dube. Sometimes I think my Daddy thinks he's 22 and not 32! That silly guy.

Two Month Check

Visited the doctor today, I'm 9.5 weeks old. I weigh 14 lbs. 14 ozs, and am 2 feet tall! That's the 90th% for weight and the 70th % for height. I had five shots, and nearly broke the light bulbs with my shrieking. My big sister didn't want to hear me cry (aka she hates loud noises), so she left the room to wait in the lobby with daddy. But that's ok, I'm over it now. (as divined by mommy)

Tea Party

I really like that tea party. I really like my guests too. I really like my mommy. Becky, I love you, and I love this picture of us. We had a lot of fun, and played games. We ate cupcakes and I poured the tea (which was really juice). That's all I'd like to say. (as dictated to mommy)

Random Picture from the Past (RPP)

(Sandalwood backyard, late summer 2005)

This is a picture of me and little Hannah, and I really like my outfit. And I really like Hannah's outfit too! We're doing a little dance called Leapfrog. And there's the tent, and there's the grass, and we're wearing wonderful haircuts.

Last Day

I must resume my 'bringer of bacon' occupation tomorrow. I would much rather continue staying home and receiving a paycheck, but time has run out. Alas. Patrick will resume his home daddy role, with two this time. Wish him luck! And yes, that's an Appalachian State t-shirt he's wearing.

Saturday, March 1, 2008

Trevor and I went to a friends baby shower, when he was just 3 weeks old. I figured the moms and aunts would jockey to hold him, but I didn't expect the little boys to jostle one another aside in an effort to be the one right in front of Trevor. Here, two of the tykes are checking him out... they were just fascinated by him. The mom-to-be just sent these pictures over. She's due any day--another boy for the bunch. We figure they'll all play hockey together.
